So I've been building a new scene based on abandoned hospitals in Prypiat, Russia. It's been abandoned since the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, I wanted to convey a room that's been abandoned for quite a few years, but it hasn't been hit directly by a bomb or anything. It's just been abandoned, run down and then been subject to occasional visitors. I did research by looking at photographs people have taken of the area over the past couple of decades.
This is still a WIP. All modelling, textures and post-production work is done by me. This image is a render from Maya with some Photoshop post-processing.

The following is a WIP conversion of this room to a playable level in Unreal. This is my first attempt at building anything in Unreal, so I still have to figure out the little details, especially for the lighting settings.

It's great timing that I can make this announcement at the same time I upload a brand new video highlighting some of the work I've done so far on "The Silver Lining" game.

For those of you who don't know about this project, it's a game inspired by the story of the classic "Kings Quest" series of PC games. What makes it unique is that it's developed completely by fans, and that it has a non-commercial license by Activision, who currently hold the rights to the "Kings Quest" IP. You can already download the first two episodes for free at the official game website, but if you want a copy on disc you can pick it up on the DVD in the upcoming issue of PC Gamer.

The issue with "The Silver Lining" included will be on sale December 7th!

I recently did a model of a dragon for the animated intro to the History Channel and Syfy Channel TV series "Beast Legends." This was done using Maya, Zbrush and Photoshop. There's video of the animation with detailed views of the model in the gallery.

Did some 3d modeling and texturing for a promotional website by SAFE Manitoba for their Creepaway Camp site. It's to promote safety in the workplace to young people and it has a horror movie theme. My models were used on the front page as the interface, which is setup as a summer camp.
Check out the site, try to win an iPad. Yeah, sounds like a spambot line, but I assure you it's not.

Hello and welcome to the new ryanyoo.com! Although I myself liked the old design which paid homage to cartooning and old comic books, this new blog-style format allows me to update the site more easily and to give me more flexibility in its design. Be sure to check out the various sections of the site, and showcase items will be shown in the image filmstrip on the front page.
